June 27, 2007 --
After showing no juice last Thursday versus the New Westminster
Salmonbellies, the Coquitlam Adanacs needed to jump start
their offence Saturday.
Joel
Dalgarno brought the booster cables.
A
call-up from the PoCo Saints Jr. ‘A’ squad, Dalgarno
sparked the A’s with two goals and an assist on way
to an 11-9 victory over the Maple Ridge Burrards in a Western
Lacrosse Association contest at Coquitlam Sports Centre.
The
win evened the Adanacs’ fourth-place record at 4-4-1
and came on the heels of a sad-sack 7-2 defeat two days previously
to the first-place ‘Bellies at Queen’s Park Arena.
“He
played well,” Adanacs general manager Les Wingrove said
of Dalgarno, who, along with his Saints’ teammate Tyler
Codron, helped fill a void in the Coquitlam line-up created
by a rash of injuries. “Our offence was somewhat non-existent
versus New West. We played well on defence both games, but
we played better offensively Saturday.”
Veteran
Jason Wulder rallied the Adanacs’ attack with a seven-point
night, including three goals. Peter Veltman also netted three
markers, with rookie Steve McKinlay contributing a goal and
three assists. Curt Malawsky added four helpers for the winners.
Gary
Bining and Tim Campeau also struck net for the A’s.
Derek Lowe, a former Jr. ‘A’ Saint, whipped in
three goals to guide Maple Ridge.
The
Adanacs managed fewer than 30 shots for the second straight
game. Against New West, the ‘Bellies blistered 49 shots
at A’s goalie Dallas Eliuk, who was sharp in stopping
42 of them.
Wulder
and Colin Doyle were the only Adanacs to beat New West stopper
Matt Disher.
PoCo
product Peter Morgan paced the ‘Bellies with three goals
and two assists, while ex-Coquitlam Jr. Adanac Athan Iannucci
handed out four assists.
After
winning their first eight games, the ‘Bellies fell for
the first time this season Friday, when they were shaved 13-12
in overtime by the host Burnaby Lakers.
The
Adanacs visit the Nanaimo Timbermen on Saturday and Maple
Ridge on Tuesday, and don’t return home until Saturday,
July 7 when they face the Lakers, 7:45 p.m., Sports Centre.
