Adanacs are hoping two Wrays make it right next Western Lacrosse
Association season.
Adanacs
general manager Les Wingrove announced Tuesday the signing
of free agent Devan Wray, who joins on the team his younger
brother, Taylor. Wingrove described the five-foot-10, 200-pound
Devan as a standout defender and transition player, along
with being a top face-off man who will help fill the void
left when Geoff Snider quit the team last season.
“Devan
is a character kid like his brother Taylor,” Wingrove
said. “He will contribute to the work ethic and leadership
on the team.
Devan,
27, has toiled the last four seasons on the Calgary Roughnecks
of the National Lacrosse League and was part their 2004 Champions
Cup victory. He currently has five goals and 11 assists for
16 points in 13 games with the Roughnecks. He has also won
158 out of 282 faceoffs that he has taken. “Devan will
give us a lot of flexibility on our back end and he will also
help us in the face-off circle,” said A’s head
coach Rod Jensen.
Wray
won two Minto Cups (1998 and 2000) with the Burnaby Jr. Lakers
and also won two ACC field lacrosse titles with Duke University.
He’s expected to play in the A’s home opener May
26 versus the Maple Ridge Burrards.
Adanacs
coach Rod Jensen was quoted as saying “Devan will give
us a lot of flexibility in our back end and he will also help
us in the face off circle, ”while Adanacs General Manager
Les Wingrove stated “Devan is a character kid like his
brother Taylor. He will contribute to the work ethic and leadership
on the team.”
Wray
will be in the lineup for the Adanacs home opener on May 26
versus the Maple Ridge Burrards and will see action in 10
to 12 of the 18 regular season games as well as the playoffs.
In between he will find time to get married this summer to
his fiancé Charlee Biederman. Wray works as a sales
rep for Advantage Sports and is currently living in Calgary.
