Geoff Snider
came to the Adanacs by way of a trade in 2003.
University of Denver commitments delayed his WLA debut for one year, but
Adanac fans will remember his one WLA game in 2002 when he played for
Coquitlam as a junior call-up and scored 5 goals and 2 assists in a great
transition game. In his rookie season as an Adanac he scored 19 goals
and 28 assists plus 164 PiM in 22 games, not to mention setting a whole
new standard for face-off efficiency in the WLA.
Work commitments in Denver, Colorado kept him out of the lineup last year
other than one game but he managed six regular season games this season
and expects to be available for most of the playoffs. His WLA stats through
the regular season this year include 32 goals and 37 assists for 59 points
plus 176 PiM in 30 games.
Geoff first played lacrosse at the age of six and played all of his minor
lacrosse for the Northwest Calgary Hornets. He played intermediate lacrosse
for the Calgary Sabercats and Junior “A” for Burnaby. He helped
lead the Junior Lakers to two Minto Cup championships in four appearances.
His Junior stats included 82 goals and 68 assists for 150 points in 63
league and playoff games. This mild-mannered, gentle soul is listed as
having 412 PiM as a Junior, clearly a typographical error. Geoff is, well,
intense.
He completed his university studies with excellent marks in Finance/Marketing
with a minor in accounting and economics as a field lacrosse scholarship
player Denver Pioneers. He was named 2006 Pioneers lacrosse MVP, a Third
Team All-American, GWLL player of the Year and Academic All-American at
Denver. He was a 2007 MLL All-Star and and while playing for Philly in
the NLL last year, he was named an All Star and an All-Rookie team member.
He also finished second in the NCAA last year with a 68.4% face-off percentage
(1st place was 68.5%).
In the field game, with no shot clock, face-offs are crucial and Geoff’s
unbelievable face-off performance for Team Canada in the ILF World Lacrosse
Championships last year earned him the Tournament MVP honours as the Canucks
bested the Yanks for the first time since the Americans last lost a game
in 1978.
Geoff’s other major sports interest is hockey. He played for three
years for the Calgary Canucks Junior “A” hockey team and was
team MVP in 2001 and 2002 as well as being named to the league First All
Star team.
Geoff enjoys music, especially by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. His favourite
film among many is The Last of the Mohicans. Geoff’s cooking specialty
is breakfast but his favourite cuisine is Chinese.
The people most influential in his lacrosse career include his coaches
in Burnaby, Mr. Paul Dal Monte and Dr. David Lough, and Canada’s
eminent sports psychologist, SFU’s Dr. David Cox.
