If you were
at Game 7 of the 2001 Mann Cup at the Pacific Coliseum you will still
remember Colin Doyle’s last-minute heroics as he scored the series-winning
goal to cap the Adanacs’ gutsy come-from-four-behind-in-the-third-period-of-game-7
rally to secure their first-ever Mann Cup championship. After Dan Stroup’s
tying goal with under a minute left, Colin’s goal was reminiscent
of Paul Henderson’s in 1972: series winner, game seven, 32 seconds
to go.
Colin played for the Adanacs from 1999 through 2002 and again in 2005
but work, family and school commitments kept him in Ontario otherwise
until he rejoined the team this summer.
Born in Kitchener, Colin first played lacrosse at age four. He played
five years of Junior “A” for Kitchener-Waterloo and was team
Rookie of the Year plus team MVP and Leadership Award winner three times
and team top scorer four times. Colin was OLA Junior “A” MVP
in 1997 and a League All Star all five years of Junior lacrosse. His Junior
scoring stats include 183 goals and 310 assists for 493 points (and 346
penalty minutes) in 129 games, a 3.8 PPG average.
His
rookie season WLA stats included 28 goals and 50 assists for 78 points
in 30 games, and he exploded as a sophomore for 43 goals and 80 assists
for 123 points in 31 regular season and playoff games. His Senior “A”
totals through 2006 include 363 goals and 553 assists for 916 points and
348 PiM in 217 games, a 4.2 ppg average.
Colin first played pro lacrosse for the Ontario Raiders in 1997 at age
20 (NLL Rookie of the Year) and was the leading scorer for the Toronto
Rock in 1999, second team All Pro in 1997 and 2000 and MVP of the 1999
NLL championship game. In 2002 he scored 47 goals and 33 assists for 80
points in 16 NLL games, two goals in the semi-finals and a hat trick in
the championship game as he and Adanac teammates Pat Coyle and Dan Stroup
celebrated another Rock championship. In 2005 he won it all as the NLL
regular season leading scorer, playoff MVP and League MVP in leading Toronto
to another championship. He playedlast season in San Jose. His NLL stats
to date include 348 goals and 487 assists for 835 points (5.2 ppg), 677
loose balls and 209 PiM in 161 games.
Colin helped lead Team Canada to gold medal wins in the 2006 World (Field)
Lacrosse Championship and this May in the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship.
Colin also plays hockey and enjoys golf, poetry, bikram yoga and reading
autobiographies. His favourite films are The Pledge and Dumb and Dumber.
His favourite music groups are Green Day and Oasis. His favourite books
include David Beckham’s Both Feet on the Ground and The Horn of
a Lamb. He cooks chicken parmesan and asparagus. Colin earned a BA in
Geography at Sir Wilfred Laurier University and just completed his Master’s
degree in Adolescent Education.
He and long-time sweetheart Stacey McCoy were married last New Year’s
Eve and are expecting their first child in October. Stacey completed her
degree in Phys. Ed. at Sir WLU and works in marketing. We note that there
are lots of teaching and marketing opportunities in this area.
The people most influential in Colin’s lacrosse career include his
father Pat, his Junior A” coach Dan Fotopoulos and his former and
greatly missed coach in Toronto, the late Les Bartley.
