Minto Cup - Maybe it's time for a change

Burnaby NOW and The Record sports editor Tom Berridge, rants about just about anything. This blog is also an opportunity for the public to share what’s going in community sports.

Enough is enough. After an eight-year experiment that involved restructuring the format of the Minto Cup from a best-of-seven series to a four-team format in order to accomodate a champion from Alberta, Tuesday's 10-1 losing display to the New Westminster Salmonbellies, if you could call it that, should send a message to everyone involved that a change back to the traditional first team to four wins is long overdue.

Season opens on Saturday, January 8 with all teams in action

The National Lacrosse League has announced the schedule for the 2011 regular season. The 25th season of professional indoor lacrosse begins on Saturday, January 8th, with all ten teams in action. The regular season consists of 16 weeks and concludes on April 23. Each team plays a 16-game regular season schedule, with eight home games.

The Washington Stealth, the league's defending champions, open their season at the Colorado Mammoth, then come home on January 9th to host the Calgary Roughnecks.
