Beanie Baby: Veltman Brings Winning Pedigree to Boston

Pro sports fans in Boston know exactly what an infusion of talent can mean to a franchise.

Tom Brady did it for football's Patriots, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen for basketball's Celtics, and David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez for baseball's Red Sox.

Daryl Veltman, who comes from a winning pedigree himself, is hoping to be one of the guys who quickly leads the expansion Boston Blazers to the top of the mountain in the National Lacrosse League.

BC Boys Impress Again at the NLL Draft

The BC Junior "A" Lacrosse League had another strong showing at the NLL draft on September 7th in Boston. 17 of the 76 players drafted had played ball in the BCJALL for a total of 22 percent of draftees. Though the numbers are not an improvement over last year (19 of 84 were BC boys in 2007 for the same total of 22 percent) one stat is impressive - for the first time in draft history the number of players plucked directly from the BC Junior A League (players who don't play in the NCAA) eclipsed that of Ontario's Junior A league. The OLA only had 9 players directly drafted from Junior A, while BC had 10. With the parity and competitiveness we saw in 2008, BC players will only get better and the BCJALL may one day be the number one place to find future NLL superstars. Four Adanacs on 2008 NLL Hot List for the Draft

This year’s draft is pretty open compared to previous years, with the combine, which will be held on Saturday, probably giving GM’s a better idea of who they’ll move up or down in their draft order, more-so than even last year.

Blazers Trade Veltman for Dawson

The Boston Blazers announced Tuesday that they have acquired defenseman Paul Dawson, the younger brother of Dan Dawson, the team's top pick in the recent National Lacrosse League (NLL) dispersal draft. To obtain the 22-year old Dawson, the Blazers sent forward Peter Veltman to the San Jose Stealth.
