Draft day is near and decision time is always complicated for the Victoria Shamrocks.

The annual Western Lacrosse Association junior draft is in Burnaby on Monday (Feb. 6) and this year’s crop of graduating B.C. Junior Lacrosse League players is a good one.

Four players stand out on the Island, all originally from Victoria, said Junior Shamrocks general manager Rod Wood.

Coquitlam's Travis Cornwall is expected to be drafted either first or second overall in the upcoming Western Lacrosse Association draft.

The difference between 1A and 1B will almost certainly come down to which hand they shoot with.

Coquitlam junior Adanac graduates Travis Cornwall and Jackson Decker seem to be the consensus top two picks ahead of the Feb. 6 Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) draft, a lottery in which the senior Adanacs have that coveted top pick.

Count Mike Moore among the newbies.

"There's an untapped market out there that we need to educate about the sport,'' says the Director of Business Operations for the Western Hockey League Calgary Hitmen and, now, the National Lacrosse League Roughnecks.

Brodie MacDonald needs to start over to be a starting goalie.

Coquitlam Adanacs traded their ninth overall choice at the Feb. 6 Western Lacrosse Association draft to the Langley Thunder in exchange for goalie Aaron Bold, it was released last week.

The Adanacs, who were last in the WLA standings last season, still own the first, eighth and 15th overall picks.

Jimmy Quinlan was the obvious choice to take over from the traded Brodie Merrill as captain of the Edmonton Rush.

He's the last remaining original player from the inaugural 2006 season, he's the team's all-time leading scorer, he plays with a never-say-quit doggedness that inspires teammates, and to top it off, he's a local product.

Jimmy Quinlan is a math teacher during the week and happens to be lefty, just like Buffalo's NLL legend John Tavares. "Hopefully I can play into my 40s, too," Quinlan said.
