Trent
came to the Adanacs early in June from the Maple Ridge Burrards in a multi-player
trade in which both teams came away stronger.
Born in Richmond, Trent first played lacrosse at age 10 for the Delta
Islanders where he also played Junior “A”, scoring 61 goals
and 69 assists for 130 points and 186 PiM in 53 games and leading his
team in scoring with 69 points in 2003, good enough for 7th best scoring
stats in the league that year.
He was drafted 8th overall by Maple Ridge in 2004 and has been a very
reliable two-way player ever since with good stick skills on transition
and offense and the mobility, size and enthusiasm of a hard-checking defenseman.
Trent’s WLA stats through 2006 include 51 goals and 85 assists for
136 points and 135 PiM in 69 games.
Trent was drafted by the Calgary Roughnecks in 2002 but did not play in
the NLL until he suited up for two games in 2005 for Minnesota. Last year
he joined current Adanac teammates Dan Stroup and Jason Wulder (as well
as Jimmy “Donnie” Quinlan who is taking the summer off lacrosse
to be married) to play for the Edmonton Rush in a primarily defensive
role. His NLL stats include 5 goals, 1 assist and 66 PiM in 12 games.
Trent’s other sports interests include golf and bocce; he says he
also enjoys “working out and laying on white, sandy beaches”.
He is part owner (with his father and his father’s childhood buddy
Dino) of Columbus Construction and Restoration where he serves as Manager
and is in charge of employee relations and job estimates and does work
completion and general construction tasks.
He enjoys spending time with his girlfriend Renée whom he likes
to treat to his fine cooking skills. Trent says, “I’m the
world’s best at the BBQ and I make a mean meal – New York
steaks, Alaskan king crab, fettuccini Alfredo and a Caesar salad.”
His favourite movies are the inspirational “Remember the Titans”
and “Rudy” as well as “Almost Famous” while his
favourite novel is The Pursuit of Excellence. His favourite music is “anything
on the radio”.
Asked for a funny story he says, “In my first practice after the
trade I was getting taped and was late for practice. We were working on
face-offs and RJ (Coach Rod Jensen) told me to go. I was clueless as to
what we were doing and asked Scott Whitley which way I was going. He sent
me the wrong way so there I was, late at my first practice applying a
full-court press to Rich Catton who was on my own team. Safe to say I
owe Whitley one.”
Trent says the people most influential in his lacrosse career have been
his parents Kirk and Ronna and his sister Krista who encouraged him to
do his best whatever the situation; childhood coach Dave Lemire who stressed
conditioning, Rod Jensen who also coached him in Junior A and “gave
me the confidence to do whatever I needed to win games”, Burrards
Head Coach Darren Fridge who “taught me how doing the little things
all add up to one giant thing on the floor and who was my assistant coach
in Edmonton”, Maple Ridge standout Kyle Goundrey and Burrards teammate
Rob Williams who “taught me as a player to adapt my game to whatever
situation I’m put in, be it a game or training camp”.
