"Seeks”
was recruited last year by GM Les Wingrove and by Arizona Sting teammates
Peter Veltman and Bruce Murray.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Andy first played lacrosse at age five at the
behest of his mother, Cora-lee. He played all of his minor lacrosse in
the Steel City followed by five years of Junior “A” in Brampton
and last year for the Minto Cup finalist Six Nations Warriors. His Junior
“A” stats included 127 goals and 159 assists for 286 points
and only 125 PIM in 124 games. In 2003 he scored 51 goals and 55 assists
for 106 points in 24 regular season and playoff games, finishing third
in league scoring and winning the coveted Jim Veltman Award as league
MVP. In 2004 he was 5th leading scorer in the league and won the Gaylord
Powless Award as Most Sportsmanlike Player.
Andy played 11 games for Brampton in 2003 and 2004 (including their Mann
Cup 2003 squad) and scored 6 goals and 12 assists. He played 14 games
for Arizona last year and scored 10 goals plus 12 assists for 22 points
plus 47 loose balls retrieved.
As an Adanac rookie in 2006 he was second in team scoring with 44 goals
and 47 assists plus only 4 PIM in 25 regular season and playoff games.
In mid-May he helped lead the Iroquois Nationals to the gold medal game
at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Halifax, scoring a brilliant
goal in his team’s gritty and exciting game against Team Canada,
which barely prevailed 15-14 in OT.
Andy’s other sports involvement included hockey (he played defense
in Junior “A” hockey in Hamilton and Junior “B”
in Brantford for two years) and under-19 field lacrosse. He’s tried
to snowboard on the hills that folks in Ontario think are mountains. Andy
is completing studies at Mohawk College to become a policeman. He’s
single and available under the right circumstances. His resume includes
the ability to cook anything, especially chicken parmesan, steaks and
“eggs for Peter Veltman in the morning” when he shared an
SFU townhouse with Peter last year. He’ll be sharing household duties
this summer with Andrew McBride. Andy’s favourite movies are “Happy
Gilmore” and “Home Alone”. His favourite music is by
Jack Johnson (www.jackjohnsonmusic.com) which is impressive.
Andy said that, as far as embarrassing moments, in his first Junior “A”
game his Excelsiors were losing badly and he was “a spare on the
bench as a fill-in” when the coaches told him jokingly, “Go
out and win the face-off and score a goal”, which he proceeded to
do.
Players most influential in his career so far have been Josh Sanderson
and Colin Doyle. Others most influential include Brampton Junior “A”
coaches Ron Chatelaine and Ed Comeau because “They brought me to
Brampton and gave me a chance as an under-age player” and also his
mother who he says “brought me into the game”.
