When
lacrosse fans hear the name Jesse Phillips they think great transition,
toughness, clutch performer and great heart. Jesse is among the best transition
players in the game. The Adanacs were delighted in 2005 to clinch a long-sought
deal with New Westminster for Jesse’s WLA playing rights. He responded
with solid defense and transition and was the Adanacs’ second-leading
scorer in the regular season with 24 goals and 35 assists in 27 games.
Jesse was born in Langley and played all of his minor lacrosse in Langley
starting at the age of eight. He played for the powerhouse Burnaby Junior
Lakers in 1995 and 1996 and scored 22 goals and 32 assists for 54 points
and 92 PiM in 33 regular season games (his playoff stats were not
available).
Drafted by the Salmonbellies in 1997, Jesse was a dynamic leader for the
New Westminster for eight seasons and always plays with great intensity
and a certain, well, edge. He missed half of the regular season due to
injuries this summer but is ready for the playoff run. His WLA stats through
this July include 125 goals and 238 assists for 365 points and 615 PiM
in 198 games.
Jesse played in the NLL for the Washington Power and Vancouver Ravens
before settling in for the past five seasons in Calgary where he helped
the Roughnecks win the Champions Cup in 2004 along with a host of Adanac
teammates. Jesse’s NLL stats to date include 43 goals and 67 assists
for 110 points plus 515 loose balls retrieved and 220 PiM in 78 games.
That’s almost seven loose balls he pounced on each game.
Jesse’s other sport is soccer which he’s played for 20 years.
His non-sports interests include reading and hanging out with family &
friends. His favorite novel is The DaVinci Code. His favorite film is
Goodfellas. He prefers music by Audioslave. His cooking specialty is anything
on the BBQ.
Jesse is an electrician. His wife Deanna whom he loves very much is a
mortgage broker whom he highly recommends to get you the best mortgage
rate possible. They enjoy spending time with their dog Quincy and with
their many two-legged friends.
The people most important in Jesse’s lacrosse career include Garry
Billon and Frank Nielsen, the former Adanac player and coach who last
July coached Team Canada to a convincing gold medal win over the previously-unbeaten-for-28-years
Team USA in the World Championships.
