The Adanacs were ecstatic to be able to make a trade with Burnaby for Mike’s playing rights with one minute to go in the trading deadline. He fit in immediately, adding his unsurpassed intensity to an already superb defensive corps. Just hitting his prime, this savvy veteran uses his quickness, strength, intelligence and combativeness to great effect in defense and transition.
Mike first played lacrosse in Burnaby at age six and played his minor and intermediate lacrosse in Burnaby. He played four Junior “A” seasons in Burnaby, scoring 9 goals and 19 assists for 28 points and 239 PiM in 94 games and earning a Minto Cup national championship ring in 2000.
During five seasons with Burnaby and now Coquitlam in the WLA he has intimidated opponents with his grit, hard hitting and tenacity. His WLA stats through this regular season include 18 goals and 26 assists for 44 points and 370 PiM in 120 games. In the NLL in three seasons with Minnesota, one in Portland and on last season’s championship Calgary Roughnecks squad he scored 4 goals and 17 assists for 21 points, 169 PiM and 187 loose balls retrieved in 85 games.
Mike’s other sports interests include hockey, soccer and Frolf (Frisbee golf). He works for PowerPoint Electrical as an electrician. His met his lovely girlfriend Leah three years ago and says, “I’ve finally moved in with her – her words.” Mike enjoys camping, spending time on the beach and playing cards. At the annual Adanac pool party Mike, in his inaugural game of the king of all card games, Euchre, pulled the upset of the year when, in his words, he “demolished Doc and Pete”. To be fair, my partner Pete wasn’t concentrating as he was too distracted by his girlfriend Katie in the pool. Mike enjoys films, especially comedies with Will Ferrell. He likes reading true stories and autobiographies. His favourite book is Into Thin Air. He enjoys cooking on the bar-b-que and enjoys dining out at different restaurants.
Mike says that the people most influential in his lacrosse career were his minor lacrosse coaches, Joe Morallo, Ed Sawa and Brad Beeth.| MIKE KILBY | Regular Season | Playoffs | ||||||||||
