Mike Gilmore Mike Gilmore

The Adanacs were pleased to be able to select Mike in the WLA draft this spring and have been even more pleased with his eagerness to learn, his poise and his overall performance on defense in his rookie season.

Born in Burnaby, Mike first played lacrosse for the Burnaby Lakers at age 12 where he also played Junior “A” including in the Minto Cup final in 2007.  A defensive specialist, his Junior “A” scoring stats include 2 goals and 29 assists for 33 points and 107 PIM in 81 games.  Mike was named to the league’s First All-Star Team last year and named
B. C. Junior “A” Defensive Player of the Year.  He says that he was very excited to be chosen by the Adanacs which he describes as “a great team and a great organization with an amazing history and a winning tradition”.

In his spare time he coaches a Midget A2 team in Burnaby.  He enjoys being active but also likes lounging about and watching TV.  In the winter he plays hockey is an avid Canucks fan.  His nickname “Happy” is perhaps too obvious, but he does always seem to be wearing a genuine smile, including when (legally) cross-checking his opponents

Mike went to high school at Burnaby North and now works as an electrician at APP Electric along with teammate Dane Dobbie.  Mike likes listening to rock music but doesn’t mind a little rap or country from time to time.  He is a bit of a movie fan.  His favourite films include Slap Shot, The Transformers and, of course, Happy Gilmore.  Mike is not all that keen on cooking but he does like the bar-b-que and he prefers a steak or a good burger when dining out.  A little known fact about Mike is that his first name is actually Edward, a family tradition, though he’s always gone by his middle name.

He says that the people most influential in his lacrosse career to date include his parents, Bill and Louise, for always supporting him, and his coach and mentor, the late, and sorely missed, Jack Crosby, who guided him through the beginning of his lacrosse career, and former coach (now Adanac teammate) Curt Malawsky who is one of the many veterans giving the Adanac dressing “an amazing wealth of experience.”
