Brad
was born in Owen Sound, Ontario and first played lacrosse at age five.
He played his entire minor and Junior “A” lacrosse career
for the Orangeville Northmen and was team captain in his final year. Brad
was team Rookie of the Year for the Northmen and played in the League
All Star game once and in the Minto Cup in 2000 and 2003. Brad is a defensive
and transition specialist with very good stick skills and scored 51 goals
and 83 assists for 134 points plus 373 PiM (he likes to check hard
and enjoys a good fight) in 136 games as a Junior. Former Orangeville
teammates Brodie Merrill and Peter Veltman suggested that he follow their
lead and play for Coquitlam in 2005.
Drafted by Calgary in 2004 while he still had two Junior seasons to play,
he was an integral part of the Roughnecks’ drive to their NLL championship
along with Andrew McBride and several other Adanac teammates. He was inexplicably
traded toToronto and at last year, at his request, to Phoenix where along
with his Adanac buddies Peter Veltman, Curt Malawsky, Brandon Atherton
and Andy Secore he helped the Sting to the championship final. Brad’s
NLL stats to date include 9 goals and 18 assists plus 92 loose balls and
75 PiM in 52 games.
In his WLA debut with Coquitlam in 2005, Brad scored 9 goals and 7 assists
with 35 PiM in 28 games and was voted “Rookie of the Year”
by his teammates. Through 2006, Brad has twinkled the twine 11 times,
and assisted on 11 others for 22 points in 31 WLA games. In the regular
season this year, he scored 7 goals on 21 shots (a 39% scoring average
…. what’s next – the power play?)
Brad played lacrosse and hockey in prep school in Salisbury, Connecticut.
He enjoys racquetball and recently has become a self-proclaimed “bocce
stud”. His favourite partner in bocce is McBride who “carries
the load”. Brad works in the insulation trade for JWI Installations.
He’s sharing a house in Coquitlam with Peter Veltman and Peter’s
sweetheart Katie.
Brad and several teammates traveled the Oregon Coast in 2005 where Brad
enjoyed the dunes, the amazing scenery and getting swamped by a huge wave
at the Coquille River Lighthouse. Last Thanksgiving it was ocean fishing
at Tofino and that’s in the works this year, too (at The Wick).
Brad’s favourite novel is Lonesome Dove followed closely by Sedlack’s
African Journals. We think he’ll like that young Canadian author’s
second book The Horn of the Lamb even more. His favourite music is by
“Trooper” and his favourite film is Stand by Me.
Brad used to cook on the Bar-B-Q but has moved on to the George Forman
Grill. He says, “Biers is my BBQ boy.”
The people most influential in his lacrosse career are his parents, Sandi
and Greg.
