This
is Dane Reelie’s first year as a member of the Senior Adanacs, but
he’s been an Adanac in his heart all his life. He is following in
the footsteps of his father, Lacrosse Hall of Fame member Mike Reelie,
whose Junior “A” and Senior “A” jerseys have been
retired and are on display in the arena.
Dane is developing into a fine two-way player in his own right and the
Adanacs are fortunate to have his face-off skills available to complement
his defensive, transition and offensive skills which were on display last
weekend when he played every position except goaltender, scored two key
goals, got in a scrap and was given the game ball by his teammates.
Dane first played lacrosse at age 5 and played all of his minor lacrosse
in Coquitlam. He played a season for the Coquitlam Junior “B”
Provincial gold medalists and led the league in regular season and playoff
scoring. He played Junior “A” for Coquitlam one year, for
Surrey in his third year and for Port Coquitlam in that season’s
playoffs, reaching the league finals. His Junior “A” stats
include 26 goals and 42 assists for 68 points plus 77 PiM in 55 games.
He played Senior “B” last year for the Tri-City Bandits, scoring
12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points plus 12 PiM in 14 games. He also
had four games under his belt in a Senior Adanac uniform before this season.
His other sports include soccer and hockey as well as field lacrosse at
Simon Fraser University where he studied Engineering before transferring
to UBC where he is completing fourth year studies in Mechanical Engineering.
After graduating he plans to continue working for Resonance Technology.
He says, “We design and build heavy duty resonance machinery that
vibrates on resonance – such as compactors, pile drivers and drills
– using a new technology that the company invented.
” Not surprisingly, Dane’s favourite films are Iron Man and
Transformers. His favourite novel is Tom Clancey’s Rainbow Six.
Dane like all kinds of rock music, especially the Red Hot Chili Peppers,
which probably has nothing to do with the fact that his cooking specialty
is a taco salad.
His favourite food is, sadly – or perhaps elegantly in its simplicity,
who knows? – a hot dog with catsup, mustard and relish. His mother
Caroline, a fine cook, will be appalled. His significant other, Jen Steiner,
is a server at Earl’s where I believe hot dogs are banned from the
menu. She plans a career in nursing.
The people most influential in Dane’s lacrosse career to date have
been his father, his father’s friend and former great lacrosse player
Bruce Turris and Adanac teammate Jason Wulder.
