Adanac sophomore, Curtis Ptolemy (the “P” is silent, please!) hails from Saskatchewan with a detour through Burnaby before the Adanacs were very fortunate and surprised to be able to select him in the third round of the last year’s WLA draft along with two other outstanding Cablevision teammates, WLA co-Rookie of the Year, leading scorer and Three Star Award winner, Dane Dobbie, and stalwart defenseman and his Cablevision team captain, Brad Richardson.
The sublime Adanacs veteran and then-Cablevision coach, Curt Malawsky, sang his praises and Curtis lived up to his billing, playing with confidence, skill and tenacity of a veteran. He’s a bull dog on defense with relentless and effective checking and plays a solid transition game.
Born in Saskatoon, Curtis, who has good stick skills and is a very capable and relentless defender, rather amazingly first played lacrosse at age 16 when his father decided to “start box lacrosse in Saskatoon”. He played two years of Junior “B” lacrosse there, leading the league in goals one year and being named one of the Founders Cup MVPs each year. His two years of Junior “A” lacrosse in Burnaby included consecutive appearances in the Minto Cup finals. In 50 Junior “A” games Curtis scored 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points plus 98 PIM.
He earned a regular place on defense during his rookie WLA season last year and also scored 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points, plus 33 PIM, in 28 games.
Curtis played hockey (left wing) through midget but now focuses on lacrosse and working out. Since he completed high school he has worked in construction, fabrication, on the rigs, as a cook and as a bartender. He likes many kinds of music, especially alternative music, and his iPod is mostly loaded with “Rap and pump-up music”. He enjoys movies, especially sci-fi and fantasy flicks. His favourite food is mom’s shepherd’s pie, but when it’s his turn in the kitchen he enjoys cooking rice and chicken.
The people most influential in his lacrosse career so far have been his father, Randy Trobak, and his former coach, Curt Malawsky.
