“Seeks” was recruited by GM Les Wingrove and by then-NLL teammates Peter Veltman and Bruce Murray.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Andy first played lacrosse at age five at the behest of his mother, Cora-lee. He played all of his minor lacrosse in the Steel City followed by five years of Junior “A” in Brampton and last year for the Minto Cup finalist Six Nations Warriors. His Junior “A” stats included 127 goals and 159 assists for 286 points and only 125 PIM in 124 games. In 2003 he scored 51 goals and 55 assists for 106 points in 24 regular season and playoff games, finishing third in league scoring and winning the coveted Jim Veltman Award as league MVP. In 2004 he was 5th leading scorer in the league and won the Gaylord Powless Award as Most Sportsmanlike Player. He played 11 games for Brampton in 2003 and 2004 (including their Mann Cup 2003 squad) and scored 6 goals and 12 assists. His NLL stats to date include 61 goals and 103 assists for 164 points in 47 games plus 154 loose balls retrieved and only 21 PiM.
As an Adanac rookie in 2006 he was second in team scoring with 31 goals and 34 assists plus only 2 PIM in 18 games and a very, very strong candidate for WLA Rookie of the Year. In May 2007 he helped lead the Iroquois Nationals to the gold medal game at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Halifax, scoring a brilliant goal against Team Canada which barely prevailed 15-14 in OT. His Senior “A” stats through last season included 101 goals and 133 assists for 234 points and only 22 PIM in 77 games.
Andy’s other sports include hockey (defense in Junior “A” hockey in Hamilton and Junior “B” in Brantford for two years) and field lacrosse. He said that he also did some snowboarding on the hills that pass for mountains in Ontario.
Andy studied at Mohawk College and aspires to a career in law enforcement. He would definitely have to be the “good cop” in any “good cop, bad cop” scenario. He says that he can cook anything, especially chicken parmesan. Andy’s favourite movies are Happy Gilmore and Home Alone. His favourite music is by Jack Johnson (http://www.jackjohnsonmusic.com/).
The people most influential in his career so far have been players Josh Sanderson and Colin Doyle, as well as Brampton Junior “A” coaches Ron Chatelaine and Ed Comeau, and his mother who he says “brought me into the game”.
